Communications comes in many forms. We can immediately respond to vocal utterance. The silence of people meeting for the first time is communication. A gesture of the head, arms and certainly the positioning of the body are all considered forms of interpersonal communications.

We have become acutely aware of how technology and the myriad of devices that have impact both how, when and if we chose to engage with one another. Yet there are a multitude of other specific cultural behaviors that are specific to regions of the world and which have been passed down through time. Cultural awareness is appreciated when subtle yet ancestral symbolism is acknowledged and respected. This week we have witnessed how a cultural behavior impacts on a social outcry for one’s rights to express themselves.
